New York, NY – Residents in New York City could face up to $250,000 in fines for using the phrase “illegal alien.” The new law from the city’s Commission on Human Rights was announced last Thursday.
“Fines of up to $250,000 can be assessed for each act of willful discrimination, and damages are available to complainants,” the city said.
The new law includes threatening to call Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). It also applies when citizens are called “illegal aliens.” The law will require the government to prove individuals spoke with the motivation of hate.
The announcement means it is likely only a matter of time before Denver or the entire state of Colorado adopt a similar measure. With full control of the government, Democrats wasted no time in turning Colorado into a sanctuary state for illegal aliens. It stands to reason at least Denver will consider following suit.
Problems
As usual, we see some problems with New York City’s newest law.
First and foremost, the censoring of free speech will likely draw a First Amendment challenge. As a result, the city will spend tax dollars defending an unconstitutional law.
Another problem is the criminalization of a legal phrase. The phrase “illegal alien” appears in U.S. code, not “undocumented immigrant.” Open-borders Democrats are gradually undermining the laws of the United States. We believe it is an attempt to bring a new voting block into a rapidly radicalized party.
We would probably consider it bad etiquette to call ICE on community members. However, it would be in compliance with the law. This new law in New York flies in the face of our sovereign country.
Worse still, criminalizing these phrases and actions puts so-called “undocumented” immigrants before United States citizens. But it does not matter to open-borders politicians.
We expect to see an attempt at a similar law here in Colorado.

I resent being taxed. If that’s hate speech so be it. It is my understanding the government hates citizens so much it is now restricting our speech. Deport and defund, this government is no longer answering to the will of the legal citizens. We The People. When will the deportations start?
