Colorado State House Representative Tom Sullivan (D-Arapahoe) wants to raise the age to purchase firearms to 25 in the state.
It’s no secret that Sullivan, who sponsored Colorado’s new Red Flag law, really likes gun control. A recent interview with Colorado Public Radio shows just how much power he wants over your rights.
Colorado Matters Interview
We transcribed some of the most relevant information from the interview below. The first quote begins just after 7:30.
[Sullivan] “The due process again is a dog whistle term that they have the ability to use that makes everybody scramble, you know, uh, for answers.”
“What do you mean by that, a dog whistle term?”
[Sullivan] “Well it’s uh, they go to the bill of rights to you know, and uh, the Fourth Amendment, you know, due process, and that caused everybody to feel as though something was happening, but they, we do that every day. Law enforcement goes into homes every day, and removes children, from what they see as a dangerous situation. All I’m asking is that these people care as much about their children as they do their guns.”
“Is there one other bill, one other law, that you would point to that you think would make a difference for mass shootings in particular.”
[Sullivan] “I mean, we’re, we’re looking at some of them here in the state, you know, possibly raising the minimum age.”“That is to purchase a firearm?”
[Sullivan] “To purchase a firearm, raising the minimum age…”

Shortly after, Sullivan confirms he wants to raise the minimum age to purchase a long gun to 25.
[Sullivan] “So maybe if we raise the minimum age for the purchase of a long gun to 21, maybe even 25.”

“So that’s something you’re considering for the next session, do I hear?”
[Sullivan] “Yes, that’s, yeah, we have had discussions certainly with the earlier case that we had, um, where our schools were shut down by that young girl that came in and was able to buy a long gun.”
More Gun Control Coming to Colorado
The cat is out of the bag. Sullivan confirmed discussions to raise the age to purchase long guns in Colorado to 25. We expect this to be a top priority for Democrats when the next legislative session begins in January.
On top of his promise for more gun control, Sullivan made some other troubling statements.
First, and possibly most egregious, Sullivan calls citizen’s constitutional right to due process a “dog whistle term.” No public official who takes an oath to uphold the Constitution should dismiss concerns about due process.
Due process is a founding principle of our country, a proven success, and it was written into the Bill of Rights for a reason.
Secondly, Sullivan makes the horrible assertion that Second Amendment supporters care more about their guns than their children. This statement is insulting and exemplifies the elitist arrogance of politicians like Sullivan.
If anything, taking a no-compromise stance on gun rights shows the parent’s desire to protect their children and their future, whatever that may require.
We believe Sullivan at least owes parents an apology. We also believe this is someone who should not be in public office.
Sullivan’s authoritarian attitude towards government is on full display in this interview. His constituents who believe in individual liberty should watch him closely because we do not believe Sullivan will stop at raising the age to purchase firearms.

No he doesn’t, he wants only the government to have firearms.
Yup raising the age should do it. Why not go to 30 or 40, that should really do it. Age has absolutely nothing to do with these senseless killings. If these wackos want a gun they will get one, age be damned. The libs want to deprive us of our constitutional right. I’m betting there are many 21 yr. olds more responsible than many 25 yr. olds. It’s the typical liberal mentality, control, control, control. It’s not only guns, it’s everything. Wake up America.
Can someone please answer this question?…” Why do people who have a life issue always want to offer a solution that causes problems for those who do not have that life issue?” Example: Governor Jared Polis comes home and sees an oil rig next door to his property. He files suit and loses. Now he wants all of us to change our lives in a way that helps him, ie. restricted drilling. Tony Spurlock, Douglas County Sherriff, loses a Deputy to a known violent and unstable person through poor training and poor decision making. His red flag law changes our lives by restricting our firearm possession. Tom Sullivan loses a child through the actions of two wacko kids. Now he wants to change our lives in a way that helps him feel better. He wants to restrict the way we raise and train our “normal” children. .
