Denver, CO – The “Kill Committees” in the Colorado State Legislature stop the best legislation under Democrat control.
If you regularly read our news site, you know we try to educate and inform you. Of course, that’s in addition to our commentary and attempted snark. One of the topics we have brushed upon is what is a “Kill Committee” in the legislature. A synopsis of a “Kill Committee” is usually folded into an article and looks something like this:
HB20-1239 appears to be a very common-sense bill. However, when the Democrats control the legislature, common-sense measures that don’t fit their extreme far-left agenda are usually sent to the “Kill Committee.” A “Kill Committee,” usually State, Veterans, and Military Affairs, is composed of a super-majority of partisan Democrats with the role of killing good common-sense legislation.

Here is shorter take:
The House State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee ironically “killed” two bills that would protect innocent lives. This committee is designated to “kill” good common sense bills for House Democrat Leadership, and they did the bidding of their far-left-wing masters.

As a citizen, what you need to know about the “Kill Committees” is who is on them and why this is still important.
First, just because the bill is assigned to a Kill Committee in the House or Senate doesn’t mean it will be killed. The State, Veterans, & Military Affairs committees are “Committees of Reference” for potential laws that deal with the State, Veterans, and Military Affairs. So, if a bill is introduced that deals with elections in Colorado, that is a “State” issue and should rightfully go to this committee. The same thing applies to Veteran and Military issues. Sending these bills to this committee is the right and proper use of the committee.
However, both parties, whoever is in the majority, primarily use these committees to send bills there to be mercilessly voted down by the hyper-partisan loyalists. For many years now, the Democrats have been in charge of at least one chamber’s (State House or Senate) Kill Committee. So they have sent good common-sense bills there to die.
What types of bills go to the Democrat’s kill committees? Assume anything that has to do with liberty, freedom, parental rights, tax cuts, school choice, budget reform, Right to Work, and anything pro-family.
These may be bills you want to testify in favor of, and you may be thinking: “why should I waste my time if it ain’t going pass?” You would be wrong to believe this. Public testimony is the free expression of your ideas. It is an essential part of freedom and political discourse. You may not sway the committee, but you may end up on and in the news making your case and convincing other citizens. Freedom dies in the dark, folks.
So who is on the Kill Committees? Yes, these are the super partisan lefty loyalists, and they usually have a leader – the Committee Chair. The Chair in the House is Representative Chris Kenndy (D-Golden). In the Senate, it’s Senator Mike Foote (D-Boulder). Foote chaired the Kill Committee in the House before he was appointed to the Senate. Both gentlemen are in relatively safe seats. Foote especially, but Kennedy’s is more competitive.
Kennedy is also a political hack that’s been working campaigns and dark money for the Democrats for years. If you live in Jefferson County, you’ve seen his dirty work, especially during School Board Elections.
For the rest of the committee members, let’s have some fun and share some graphics we found from Senate and House Republicans on Facebook:
There they are folks, the most partisan of the partisan. The left of the left. Unfortunately, there is next to zero chance that these people lose to a Republican in the next election. The only way to reform the Kill Committees is to flip both Chamber’s majorities back to Republican.
What do you think about the Kill Committees? Are they fair and necessary for the operation of the legislature? Or, are they an abomination to freedom and liberty? Please post your comments below and on social media!
