Denver, CO – It’s no secret that Elon Musk’s companies SpaceX and Tesla Inc. are both struggling and heavily subsidized by federal and state governments. Not to mention Tesla’s questionable ties to former Governor John Hickenlooper’s mandates.
The existence of these subsidies is what makes the latest Tesla blunder so frustrating. But despite this abuse of taxpayer money, it is impossible not to laugh.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk took to its glitzy Hawthorne, California stage to reveal the futuristic Tesla Cybertruck last night.
The truck boasts a ‘bulletproof’ body and ‘shatterproof’ windows, though the reveal proved the windows were not as unbreakable as anticipated. Just watch the reveal video courtesy of The Verge for the hilarious proof.
We also highly doubt the truck is entirely bulletproof. We certainly would not mind a private company testing this when the all-electric vehicle is finally released.
The truck still has plenty of other problems, and we do not expect to see many on the road in Colorado at the distant release date.
Specs and Tech
The somewhat reasonable low-end model starts at $39,000 but falls short. With only 7,500 pounds towing capacity and a 250-mile per-charge range, we just do not see this truck getting the job done. The $69,000 model claims a 500-mile per-charge range and a towing capacity of 14,000 pounds.
Keep this in mind. The base model likely does not maintain a 250-mile per-charge range at peak towing capacity. Nor will it maintain that capacity in the mountains at extremely cold temperatures. We just do not believe it can get the job done for most Coloradans.
Truth be told, electric vehicle technology is something that needs to be explored. It is an incredibly exciting technology. For example, electric motors create instant torque. We will not get too technical here, but basically, electric motors do not require the warm-up period of a traditional engine.
Despite the exciting potential, there is no excuse for government subsidies to drive this industry, especially in Colorado. The technology is not far enough along.
Governor Jared Polis’ mandates and Colorado Democrats’ blind ideology are already increasing costs for businesses and consumers. Worse still, they are stealing from taxpayers to subsidize vehicles that only high-income earners can afford. The government’s push for electric vehicles does not hit the mark.
The bottom line is, government interference in the market is terrible for the state. Democrats (and this time Elon Musk) prove this time and time again.
