Tear down Columbine? Why 20 years later?

Evan Todd at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., on March 21

So, the highly paid superintendent of Jefferson County public schools is floating an idea to tear down Columbine High School where the tragedy happened 20 years ago.

So why now? After years of Columbine alumni being harassed by the media every time there is a school shooting (Hint: Gun Free Zones don’t work) suddenly he wants to tear it down.

The article we linked and the Jefferson County school administration claim that Columbine has become/is a morbid curiosity. You may remember Sol Pais who traveled to Colorado from Florida and caused a mad panic that shut down every metro Denver school.

Sadly, she took her own life and was never a threat to the school or the children.

Former Columbine High School Principal Frank DeAngelis is behind it as well. Again, he’s had 20 years to advocate for this.

So again, why now?

Simple – the school district is trying to use this tragedy for a tax increase to build a new school (or whatever they will use the tax increase on). This is pretty disgusting. We’re sick of the lengths of indecency that liberals will go to steal more of our money. Time to stop this insanity!

  1. Columbine HS will continue to be a “morbid curiosity” whatever the building looks like. That can not be a valid reason for such an expensive taxpayer funded project. The new school building will still draw attention, both wanted and unwanted unless the name is changed from Columbine to something else. Leave the school alone, protect the students, and get a new “highly paid superintendent “.

  2. Tearing down Columbine HS is just a ridiculous waste of taxpayer dollars. It will serve no purpose except maybe someone will make a bunch of money for the design and construction. It’s just not necessary. The people who were students during the shooting at Columbine are long gone on to other things, and no one who is still there has any direct memory of the tragedy. Keep the school as a memory and to remind everyone that a “gun free zone” is a very bad idea and only creates soft targets, as Columbine was, and probably is today.
