Denver, CO – Senator Rhonda Fields (D-Arapahoe), Representative Dafna Michaelson Jenet (D-Adams), and Representative Colin Larson (R-Jefferson), are proposing new Obamacare mandates.
While the two Democratic Prime Sponsors do not surprise us, we are sad to see that a Republican signed on as a Prime Sponsor of this cost-increasing bill.
Republican State Representative Colin Larson appears to really like mandates for insurance companies. Mandatory coverage was a staple of the Obamacare scheme. This was the main driver of increased health care costs. Apparently, Larson didn’t get the memo or doesn’t understand basic business and economic principles.
This is simply a bad vote for any Republican in the legislature. From the bill summary:
The bill adds a requirement, as part of mandatory health insurance coverage of preventive health care services, that health plans cover an annual mental health wellness examination of up to 60 minutes that is performed by a qualified mental health care provider. The coverage must:
* Be comparable to the coverage of a physical examination;
* Comply with the requirements of federal mental health parity laws; and
* Not require any deductibles, copayments, or coinsurance for the mental health wellness examination.
Colorado General Assembly Website, House Bill 20-1086 Summary
Not only does this bill mandate mental health coverage, but it regulates the standard of care, and mandates that it is “free.” Of course, we know nothing is free; these costs will be shared by all consumers. Yes, your health care costs WILL be going up because of this. This bill already passed out of the State House of Representatives and will be heard in a Senate Committee on March 11. Expect this bill to pass and for Governor Jared Polis to sign it.
So what does Larson say about his bill? Well here is some video from the debate on the floor of the State House of Representatives:
Larson explains that Colorado will be the guinea pig in adopting these federal mandates. Therefore, there is no proof of what he calls “cost savings” from this government mandate. There is another politician who made the same promise of cost-savings through mandates. That politician is former President Barack Obama. These mandates have been the main contributing factor to annual double-digit percentage increases in the cost of health care in America.
This is really bad legislation. We just wrote an article about how Democrats are trying to make Obamacare permanent here in Colorado, so Republicans at the federal level will have no way to repeal Obamacare here. Apparently, Larson wants to add on to the permanent Obamacare mandates.
We found this compilation video of Obama promising cost-savings. Let’s hear what he has to say:
Larson and Obama sound eerily similar. In fact, Larson is helping to enact these mandates here in Colorado. Should this surprise you? No, it shouldn’t. If you follow the State Legislature and read our articles, you should know that some Republicans aren’t much better than the Democrats. In fact, we’ve covered this issue on a few occasions:

Larson, who Represents South Jefferson County, is arguably one of the most liberal Republicans in the legislature. As you can see, if you click on the links, at least Larson is consistent in his left-leaning views. In the years we really needed Republicans to be strong, Larson is crossing the aisle on an issue that no Republican should support.
We really hate discussing bad Republicans. But this is about liberty, freedom, and conservative values. If Republicans don’t stand for these ideals, who will? If nobody does, there goes our Colorado and our country – down the toilet!
What do you think about these mental health mandates? Should we give Larson a pass, because he has an “R” next to his name? If you think Larson is right about the cost savings, then shouldn’t you think Obama was right as well? Please share your comments below and on our social media!
