Featured as our “Nanny Bill of the Week,” HB19-1033 authorizes counties to enact additional regulations against the purchasing and use of tobacco products. This can include increased taxes on top of the already high state taxes, and can also increase the age of purchase and use to 21.
Legislators clearly want to deter the use of tobacco and nicotine products, because they could be a health hazard.
We’re honestly surprised Democrats haven’t just tried to ban nicotine products. But they know they can get increased tax revenue from it and inflate their nanny state spending. So if it can be potentially harmful, they want to tax the hell out of it.
But if it’s something that can and WILL kill you, like heroin, they want to help you get high and enable your problem.
Sen. Kevin Priola (Adams County) has supported both of these ideas. Splitting from his republican colleagues, he has been outspoken about heroin injection sites and is expected to sign on to the legislation.
We think we found another volunteer to host these injection sites at their home. Thanks Kevin Priola, Jonathan Singer, and Brittany Pettersen for what I can assume, are you wanting to lead by example and host these sites. You will be doing your part to help clean up the streets.
