Denver, CO – House Republican Leader Patrick Neville is championing a bill by dearly departed State Representative Kimmi Lewis.
State Representative Kimmi Lewis passed away on December 6, 2019. Kimmi’s legacy in the legislature will continue as one of the bills she fiercely fought for will be carried by House Republican Leader Patrick Neville.

The bill, HB20-1117, concerns the mislabeling of meat. This doesn’t sound very interesting, however, most consumers would like to know the country of origin of the meat they plan to eat. Companies have abused the labeling for years.
For example, currently, beef (cows) could be raised in China up until two months before they went to market. China could pump whatever unregulated chemicals into the cows, send them to the U.S. after they’ve been contaminated with who knows what, and the beef when it got to market would still be labeled from the U.S. The assumption would be that these cows were raised by USDA standards. This is false advertising.
This bill will provide consumers with the truth in labeling that they deserve. Kimmi Lewis was not able to get this bill passed in her three years in the legislature. We will see if legislators will honor her legacy and pass the bill this year.
