Denver, CO – Colorado State Representative Dave Williams (R-El Paso) called out the Democrats’ latest sanctuary state bill by running an amendment to SB20-083.
The Senate Bill, Prohibit Courthouse Civil Arrest, “protects an individual from civil arrest while the person is present at a courthouse or on its environs, or while going to, attending, or coming from a court proceeding.”
Any person living in the United States without documentation is committing a civil offense.
The bill is sponsored by Senator Julie Gonzales (D-Denver) and Representative Leslie Herod (D-Denver).
Williams’ amendment called to exclude individuals who are not lawfully in the United States. The majority of Democrats, however, appear to support this extra protection for undocumented immigrants. This includes vulnerable State Representative Brianna Titone (D-Jefferson). Titone already has a rough track record after less than two years in office, including snubbing Gold Star Families.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), make arrests in courthouses because it is a safer environment for officers and offenders to interact. Not to mention, courthouse arrests keep these interactions from happening in communities.
Democrats can no longer say this is not another sanctuary state bill designed to protect likely criminal illegal aliens. It is likely to pass third reading in the House today, and head to Governor Jared Polis’ desk soon after.
Kudos to Rep. Williams for shining a light on dangerous legislation for all of Colorado to see.
