Denver, CO – Over 79,000 unemployment claims were filed last week according to data from the Colorado Department of Labor & Employment (CDLE).
Unemployment filings for the week ending April 25, 2020:
- 38,384 initial regular unemployment claims
- 40,906 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) initial unemployment claims (gig worker, self-employed)
- 79,290 total initial claims
That brings the total number of initial unemployment claims filed in Colorado to 358,489.
Colorado is in the middle of a fake reopening as many businesses remain closed or under strict orders that limit their ability to operate.
On top of this, people are still being told to remain at home except when necessary.
Governor Jared Polis has done little to loosen restrictions on Coloradans, and the economic damage is apparent. Many businesses that previously provided these jobs may never open again.
Many counties and municipalities remain on “Stay at Home” orders despite the fake reopening that Polis rolled out this week. This is sure to exacerbate economic woes as Colorado sees a decline in cases and hospitalizations.
