Loveland, CO – The majority of the Loveland City Council is in favor of a sales tax hike, according to the Loveland Reporter-Herald.

Loveland’s City Council directed staff on Tuesday to set another date for it to decide whether it will put a sales tax hike on the November ballot to help make up for the multimillion-dollar general fund shortfall expected in 2021.

From the Loveland Reporter-Herald

There are three proposed options for the tax hikes, which are projected to cost citizens between $14.1 million and $21.1 million in the first year. These are sales tax increases.

The majority of council members reportedly said they are in favor of putting a tax hike on the ballot.

With hundreds of thousands of people out of work and out of business in Colorado, is this the best option?

People are hurting, and they do not have the extra spending money they did before Colorado’s economically destructive COVID-19 response.

Even a slight increase in the sales tax may make normal trips to the supermarket unaffordable for many people.

Haven’t people sacrificed enough?

There must be other avenues to trim the budget and fund future projects. All of these should be thoroughly explored before asking people to give their last dime after they were put out of work.

  1. So they could look longer term to attract more people with tourism and not raise taxes, but tie their own hands and just want to push a tax hike instead so it gets pushed through in the same session? How many government bureaucrats does it take to screw in a light bulb?

  2. Wow, so that will help with businesses, let’s just put the nail in the coffin. Who elects these morons?
No one will buy if they keep raising taxes…also, just take the fu**ing budget cut and do with less, way less. We’ll all be better off!
