Greeley, CO – Is the Weld County GOP going to find a candidate for competitive House District 50? Time is starting to run short.

Colorado State House District 50 is a competitive swing seat in Greeley, Colorado. It is currently represented by a socialist Democrat who was appointed to replace former Rep. Rochelle Galindo.

Galindo resigned in disgrace after being accused of sexual assault and providing alcohol to minors on her campaign staff. But, that is not the story here.

According to TRACER (Colorado’s public website for tracking candidate and political committee filings), there is not a single Republican filed to run for House District 50.

We want to emphasize; this is a winnable seat for Republicans.

Now, the filing deadline is passed, but the party can still hold a vacancy committee to nominate a candidate. We find it hard to believe not a single Republican is willing to run for office in a swing seat – especially against a socialist Democrat like Mary Young (D-Greeley)!

Who is dropping the ball?

Is the party dropping the ball on candidate recruitment, or is there truly nobody that is willing to run for the seat?

Our understanding is the Weld County GOP prefers to keep everything local. That’s great, and not a bad way to run the local party. But, are they pushing people out that could help them find a candidate?

For instance, State GOP Chair and Congressman Ken Buck is from Weld County. We imagine he could help the local party find a candidate.

Colorado State Director at Trump Victory, Jefferson Thomas, is a resident of Weld County. Surely he would be willing to help recruit a Republican to run for House District 50.

There are a plethora of grassroots activists and groups across the entire state that would likely be willing to help as well.

The good news is, there is still time for the local party to hold a vacancy committee and nominate a candidate to run. Unfortunately, if that does not happen, socialist Democrat Mary Young will cruise to victory.

Only time will tell if Republicans can find a candidate, but that time is running short.

Colorado Citizen Press reached out via email to Weld County GOP leadership but has not heard back at this time. The story will be updated if a comment is received.
