Denver, CO – In her opening speech to the Colorado State House, Speaker KC Becker outlined a socialist utopia and insulted taxpayers. Her speech occurs around the one hour mark of this video.
Becker spoke of plans to bring back the unaffordable and business-killing paid family leave program. If it is anything like the 2019 version, it is bad news for Colorado.
The Speaker also mentioned further gun control measures and school safety initiatives. We expect the gun control measures will include an age restriction of 21 for all purchases, storage requirements, and an extended waiting period. We also doubt the school safety initiatives will do anything to help students and teachers defend themselves.
Becker claims Colorado has a retirement crisis due to an emerging gig economy. Her solution – a state-run retirement fund for the public. Judging by how underfunded Colorado’s current pension program is, trusting the government to run a successful retirement fund is insane.
The biggest slap in the face was handed to Colorado taxpayers. Becker called the Taxpayer Bill of Rights (TABOR) an “antiquated law.” TABOR, however, is the last defense taxpayers have against a Democrat-controlled government bent on spending hard-working families’ money. Voters upheld the law again on the 2019 ballot, yet Becker proves here that she does not represent those people.
Becker also brought up the opioid epidemic. Though she did not mention specific plans, it is all but certain deadly drug injection centers are on the agenda. A death penalty repeal is also back on the table in 2020.
She mentioned further gun control measures and school safety initiatives. Becker claimed Colorado has a retirement crisis, suggesting a state-run fund for the public.
The policies outlined by Becker are only a sneak peek at what may be an even worse session for Coloradans than 2019.
