Denver, CO – Yesterday, Democrats shunned the father of STEM hero Kendrick Castillo, the young man who selflessly gave his life to save his peers during the STEM shooting in Highlands Ranch last May.
John Castillo attended the House State, Veterans, & Military Affairs Committee on Thursday to voice his support for HB20-1040, Concealed Handguns On School Grounds. House Minority Leader Patrick Neville has run the bill for six years.
In a six to three vote, Democrats once again killed the bill. So, once again, Democrats failed to consider legislation that will save children’s lives.
Calling for a Bipartisan Solution
After the disappointing decision, Castillo went live on Facebook to call for bipartisan support.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s Republican or Democrat or independent, I’m for school safety. I mean, it can come from either side. I just find it weird that we don’t look at this as a bipartisan issue, and we still have, I believe, a partisan divide, and that’s troublesome.”

Castillo is correct. It is not about being Republican or Democrat; it’s about doing what’s right. This is about protecting our kids.
However, when a father, who lost his child to the “gun violence” Democrats constantly decry, comes forward with different ideas on how to save lives, Democrats shun him.
Castillo went on to discuss gun-free zones, asking why we do not have the right to protect kids in schools.
“Why do we not have that right? Why do we have gun-free zones that are shooting galleries basically? We’re asking our teachers, our staff, and our kids to hunker down in a classroom with a book and a pencil, maybe grab a fire extinguisher, something heavy to fight back with. Is that the best that we can do?”
John Castillo
We don’t believe it is the best we can do for our kids. Yet, Democrats continue the same tired practice of restricting law-abiding gun owner’s rights.
Democrats listen to billionaire-funded Mom’s Demand Action, but they refused to listen to John Castillo. Worst still, they refuse to listen to the actions of hero Kendrick Castillo, who did the only thing he could by fighting back.
Castillo said if he is not welcome as a voice at the Capitol, he will make his voice heard out in the cold with the people.
“I’m not going to go away. We need to have this change.”
