We’ve been stewing over this for over a week, trying to curb our anger and write a constructive article. The STEM Shooting here in Colorado still strikes a nerve. We’re angry and saddened at the death of a student. We’re inspired by the heroes that emerged.
In contrast, there is former cop Scot Peterson. This is the former cop (he was fired) who was acting Security Officer at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. This coward, instead of doing his duty and his job in protecting the kids, basically turned tail and ran. He is being charged “with seven counts of child neglect with great bodily harm, three counts of culpable negligence and exposure to harm, and one count of perjury.”
Children may still be alive if not for Peterson’s cowardice. We also would have never heard of anti-gun whack job David Hogg. Here we have a trained police officer that didn’t do his job, despite his specific job description to protect kids.
We know he may be the exception to the rule, and we do note a second police officer Sgt. Brian Miller, who was also fired, was the first officer on the scene at Marjory Stoneman, and did pretty much nothing. We point this out not to criticize law enforcement, but to contradict the argument we hear from liberals that citizens don’t need guns to defend themselves because we have law enforcement for protection.
Back to the STEM School tragedy – here we had an armed school resource officer who was not law enforcement do his job and run to protect the students.
Just think if we allowed teachers to carry and eliminated gun-free zones where our kids are sitting ducks.
A good guy with a gun can save lives. If he is handicapped by the government and not able to do that we all suffer and children die. Of course, liberals think the good guy with a gun is a myth – but we know a liberal with a sound mind, and common sense is a myth.
It’s time for this to change, and instead of more gun control – we should change laws to create more freedom for protection.
Elections matter.
