Colorado Paid Almost $2 Billion in Unemployment Since Shutdown

Denver, CO – Colorado has paid almost $2 billion in unemployment benefits since the shutdown due to Governor Jared Polis’ COVID-19 response.

According to CPR:

Colorado has handed out more than $1.9 billion in unemployment benefits since the end of March. To compare, the state and the federal government paid out $2.2 billion in benefits in 2010 for the year during The Great Recession.

From CPR

Polis obviously refused to consider the economic ramifications of his mandates. Well, that or it is all a plot to tank the economy to beat President Donald Trump in November.

Either way, Polis made a massive, irresponsible mistake with his COVID-19 response.

Colorado will continue to pay tens of millions per week in unemployment benefits. That will add up to much more than $2 billion very quickly.

Because Polis extended his COVID-19 mandates that keep restaurants and businesses at half capacity, jobs are not coming back. Many restaurants are still at risk of closing permanently.

Colorado is facing a more than $3 billion budget shortfall. People are still out of work. Democrats in the legislature reportedly refuse to make reasonable budget cuts (more on this later).

Polis’ oppressive and overreaching executive orders put Colorado in this mess.

It is past time for Polis to give up the power he assumed and let Coloradans get the state back on track.

  1. And….. They were wrong the whole time anyways. As usual, government creates more problems than it ever could hope to solve. Facts are in, the coronavirus is not something we need to shut down society for or force mask wearing under penalty of jail. Hypochondriacs are in control. What a shame. I hope all the businesses which did not stand up for themselves and just followed the pied piper do go out of business. It’s an important lesson to learn about liberty and freedom. If you trade liberty for security, you end up with neither. Let’s hope they learn the lesson this event was a clear as day modern example of taxation without representation. All that stimulus money was simply a tax charged to the dollar itself. Get ready for inflation because that comes next. Take heart, everyone did their part to bail out the mega corporations, again. Honk if I’m paying your mortgage, and your unemployment benefits, again.
