A 10-year-old Colorado girl just climbed the greatest wall in America, El Capitan. In the spirit of writing some non-political content now and again, we could not pass up this amazing story.
The sheer face of the wall towers 3,000 feet above the floor of Yosemite Valley, California. Climbing it is no easy feat, and we would like to congratulate Selah Schneiter. Not only for climbing the “The Nose” route of “El Cap” with her father but for being the youngest on record to accomplish the climb.
According to this story by ABC News, Schneiter researched the entire climb herself outside of her father’s training. For those of you unfamiliar with climbing, big climbs are broken up into pitches of up to hundreds of feet, and she knew every pitch.
If you have not been to Yosemite Valley, we would probably put it on a top ten list of places to visit. The park is absolutely awe-inspiring (if you are willing to brave the traffic).
If you are not, take a couple of hours to watch this wild documentary about the history of rock climbing in Yosemite. Yes, it features a bunch of “dirtbag” hippies without jobs, but the climbs these athletes accomplish will blow your mind.
So again, congratulations to Selah Schneiter. If she can climb El Cap at 10, she can accomplish anything she sets her mind to.
