SB19-103 allows a minor to operate a temporary business without having to obtain permission from a local government.
Our nanny state bill of the week was passed out of committee yesterday on a 5-0 vote and will shortly come to the Senate floor.
Before you get frustrated with our liberal legislature, the bill is pretty harmless.
But the reason we roll our eyes and get frustrated when cops shut down kids’ lemonade stands is the same reason we should feel frustrated with this legislation.
It just shouldn’t be necessary to pass legislation to protect something as innocent as lemonade stands.
What ever happened to using discretion?
It’s a sad day when we need a law to protect our children from the police and local governments. After all, we believe lemonade stands are a great way to teach kids the value of hard work and another way to earn some money, all while providing a service to the community.
So good news, if your kid wants to put up a table on your property to sell lemonade for 50 cents, or chooses to mow neighbors’ lawns during the summer, you can sleep easy knowing they won’t be breaking the law.
