Prominent Former GOP Legislator Funding a Democrat in House Swing Seat

Pueblo, CO – A prominent former GOP legislator is funding a Democrat in a Colorado State House swing seat according to Colorado’s campaign finance database, TRACER.

Greg Brophy, the former Senate Assistant Minority Leader, donated the legal maximum to Bri Buentello (D-Pueblo) in 2019. Buentello is the Representative for Colorado House District 47.

Brophy’s wife Angela donated the legal maximum of $400 to Buentello’s campaign committee, “Bri for Colorado,” on the same day in 2019.

While checking voter records, we noticed something else. Greg and Angela Brophy are registered to vote at two different addresses. We find this odd considering they are married and apparently in lockstep with their donations to Buentello’s campaign.

The House District 47 general election will see Stephanie Luck face off against incumbent Buentello in November. Luck won the Republican primary, which saw 9,597 votes. Buentello ran unopposed, receiving 9,179 votes.

This seat is very much in play for Republicans to take back in 2020. So, why is a former Republican leader backing Democrats?

With Bush appointees flocking to back Biden against President Donald Trump, you have to wonder if the same thing is happening at the state level in Colorado.

Sources tell us Brophy, along with Josh Penry and EIS Solutions, are responsible for spending most of the money in GOP primaries in 2020. Much of this money appears to have gone towards electing liberal Republicans.

On top of this, Brophy has a history of backing bad legislation. He voted for in-state tuition for illegal aliens. He also pushed for an anti-life ballot measure legalizing assisted suicide that passed in 2016.

On top of that, Brophy voted for HB10-1365. This bill forced coal power plants to switch to natural gas, and led to the decline of clean coal power in Colorado.

What is happening to the Colorado Republican Party?

  1. Boebert better be up on her A Game as Politics in Colorado are down and dirty. The Democrats have one foot up on everything. The Dems in Colorado Lie, Cheat and are Thieves just like Polis and Hickenpooper. Liars everyone of them. Please vote for Republicans and get Colorado back on Track so that when Polis’s time is up he will be on his way out and never to be heard from again. This Polis is nothing but a Thief and he will never allow Colorado to get back to work. Not as long as there is one person in the State that sneezes and Polis will decide we all need to stay home some more until after the Election in November. This Governor is nothing but a showboat for the Dems. in Colorado.

  2. The present condition of the Colorado GOP is a joke. It appears as half the party is supporting the other side(?)
We couldn’t even get the Larimer GOP office to allow us the facility for the signature-gathering to recall Polis until the very end of the project.
Boebert is exactly what the party needs… New, “truly conservative” blood. If only more would come forward and do as she did.
We’re in need of an entirely new “conservative party”, if you will, to end the indolence and apathy of the current GOP in Colorado.
After many years of being a delegate to the state conventions/assemblies, I finally had enough & went Independent party.
The former Tea Party tried to work it out from within the party… disaster. It has to come from a united outside effort with everyone playing a role to establish a “new” party of conservatives. We’re watching the state turn from blue to Navy blue and no one seems to care… I sincerely hope I’m wrong.

  3. Although disappointing to read, it really comes as no surprise. Brophy has been a closet Democrat hiding out in the GOP for a long time. As a state legislator he used to drive around the state in his electric vehicle bragging about what a sanctimonious savior of the planet he was. And he is the reason FASTER legislation was passed increasing all our vehicle license/tag fees. The funds from that were supposed to fix our roads but they never did. Buentello will vote with the far left Dems as often as possible. She recently voted no on one bill at the end of the recent session but only because she knew it would pass without her vote (but she could tell her constituents “see, I listened to you.”)

  4. Per Stephanie Luck: I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to everyone who cast a ballot in the 2020 Primary Election. Your participation strengthens our Republic. Your ballot serves as a vehicle of hope. Thank you for not giving up on this grand experiment known as America!

Some of you have asked where the HD47 Republican Primary stands. What are the results? Who won? Well, it’s still too close to call. The three counties have processed all of their election night ballots, but they have to wait eight days after the election to allow for the arrival of cured and absentee ballots. Thus, we will not know final (yet still unofficial) numbers until July 9.

Regardless of the outcome, let us continue to work together in pursuit of a more perfect union.

  5. The only reason Buentello won her seat was because of “dark money” for emerge candidates and alot of ballot harvesting and dirty politics by the democrat election judges In pueblo who magically counted extra ballots over the last weekend of counting ballots after the republican party judges were sent home.
The Republican district captain complained about it but people like Ryan Call just shrugged their shoulders…pueblo county is as good at dirty politics as the rest of them. We need to make sure mysterious ballots aren’t magically found this next election..
There are Republicans like Anschutz who are making money off of Wind farms and they just a soon let this state turn blue as long as they get a return on their investments..
