Denver, CO – Democrat lawmakers are proposing $4.2 billion in tax hikes and “fees” under the guise of making up the over $3.3 billion budget deficit.
Of course, that budget deficit was created by Governor Jared Polis’ executive orders that shut down businesses and put hundreds of thousands out of work.
House Bill 1420 is a massive tax hike that will further hurt small businesses. It already passed out of the Colorado State House on Thursday. Democrats claim it is not a tax hike because it repeals deductions added for small businesses under the CARES act.
Senate Bill 215 raises “fees” (taxes) on hospitals and health insurers. Democrats cannot pay for the costly “reinsurance” scheme (HB19-1168) that they passed last year. Their solution is to raise fees that will be passed onto consumers who are already struggling due to Polis’ shutdown.
On top of that, a $2 billion tax hike is proposed. Voters would have to approve this tax hike under the Taxpayer Bill of Rights.
Democrats have no intention of cutting wasteful programs.
Instead, they are using the $3.3 billion budget crisis created by Polis and the Colorado Department of Health and Environment to call for permanent tax hikes.
Business groups across the state are concerned about these proposals, and a think tank claims they will be detrimental to Colorado’s economic recovery according, to The Center Square.

In all fairness, the CDPHE had three wastewater treatment plants fail because people were putting all manner of inappropriate things down their toilets when there was a shortage of T.P.
There is no excuse for Polis, however.
Clap your hands and smile you worthless bunch of leaches. The day will come when the constituents will say enough and disband your clique.
I’d like to see an audit of where the pot tax money really went.
Me too.
