Denver, CO – A man was arrested and released three times under a California COVID-19 zero-dollar bail policy. Could it come to Colorado?

The policy is an attempt to curb the population of jails in California. It allowed a man to be arrested and released three times in a single day.

The man was arrested for attempting to steal multiple vehicles and property, as well as drug possession. He was again issued a citation and released after the third offense.

Colorado recently joined the Western States Pact, essentially tying Colorado’s COVID-19 response to that of California and other coastal states.

Disastrous policies like this one in California prove why Colorado should not be tied to other state’s COVID-19 response. Colorado is an independent and unique state and needs to be treated as such.

Given the recent bad PR surrounding this policy, we doubt it will be adopted in Colorado.

Nevertheless, because Colorado’s response is tied to California’s, Coloradans need to keep a close eye on this type of policy decision.

Colorado’s wrecked economy proves Governor Jared Polis does not care about law-abiding citizen’s wellbeing. On top of that, jails across the state are releasing inmates early to ease the density of jail populations.

It stands to reason that officials in Colorado would consider something similar to California’s failed zero-bail policy.

Hopefully, this is one of the few policies that Colorado’s assumed rulers leave in California.
