Denver, CO – Recent reports amongst the COVID-19 outbreak claim that reusable tote bags are helping spread the virus. This is derailing efforts to pass plastic bans across the country.
In fact, New York even delayed the enforcement of their new plastic bag ban until May 15.
HB20-1162, Prohibit Food Establishments’ Use Of Polystyrene, would end the use of most plastic to-go containers by restaurants.
SB20-010, Repeal Ban On Local Government Regulation Of Plastics, would allow local governments to regulate plastic bags and to-go containers.
Both of these bills are likely to pass once the legislative session starts up again.
Take our one-question poll below, and let us know where you stand on plastic bans in Colorado!

Plastic bags are useful for perishable products where moisture could increase spread of germs. Reusable totes are useful for products that are dry and do not require sanitizing the tote after each use. When my father was stationed in Germany (U. S. Army) in the 1950’s, it was common to use string-type, open-air bags to carry produce from the open markets to home. The main question should be one of health and sanitation to avoid the spread of germs. It’s pathetic to think one would seriously consider taking a step back from technology and the best health standards it has given us as a country. Please do not ban plastic bags; they serve a specific use and can be recycled.
CONTROL!!!!! Even how we bag our groceries. Sanitary conditions a concern? Not when down town is filled with human feces, urine and rats and mayor or gov. says NOTHING!
