17,000 Ballots Were Printed Incorrectly in Aurora

Aurora, CO – Adams County Clerk and Recorder, Josh Zygielbaum (D), announced some 17,000 ballots were printed with incorrect instructions. Aurora saw a number of high profile incidents surrounding the GEO run Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in 2019.

The mistake is in the instructions for choosing at-large candidates for the Aurora City Council. Voters are supposed to choose two candidates, but the ballot language states voters should only pick one.

Zygielbaum says voters will have corrected ballots on October 18th.

“If voters return only the incorrect ballot, election judges will review and count those ballots after they’ve been separated from the return envelope, ensuring voter anonymity,” a county news release said.

Zygielbaum edged former Clerk and Recorder Stan Martin (R) in the 2018 election, taking 51.7 percent of the vote. Zygielbaum claimed Martin failed in his responsibilities as the Adams County Clerk and Recorder. During the 2018 election, approximately 60,000 ballots were not delivered on time to Adams County voters

One of the Clerk’s primary responsibilities is to ensure that elections are managed competently. Right now, we have a Clerk who is proving his inability to do just that.

Less than a year later, Zygielbaum’s own office is failing to provide accurate ballots for voters.

At-large candidate Thomas Mayes told the Sentinel, “In any case, there is no solution I can see that would mitigate all concerns about election integrity that have been created.”
